I remember first watching Johnny around 1970 when I was in the 5th grade. Like some of the other fans who have signed the guest book, I was privileged to have a TV set in my room and would watch him in bed, knowing I was getting away with something. How I loved watching Johnny! I would often be kind of sleepy the next day at school but I did not care. That year, I will never forget how my teacher was opening her valentines like Carnac did, putting it up to her forehead before opening it. She had a ggod laugh when I said, "Carnac! That is just like Carnac!" Unfortunately, the other kids were clueless as to what I meant. I really felt sorry for them and what they were missing. I must say I am indebted to my parents for allowing me to watch Johnny, which was something I did until he left the air...I miss his show so much. God bless you Mr. Carson, you are a very special part of my life.
Sincerely,
Linda Johnson

As far as I am concerned, nothing on late night even compares to the Carson days of The Tonight Show. Nice try Leno and Letterman, but no cigar...we miss you Johnny.

I have so many fond memories of Johnny Carson I wouldnt know where to begin. Having met Joey Bishop in 1988 when living in Newport Beach, I wasnt aware he hosted the show the most when Johnny had off...I still laugh when Dean Martin showed up and his pat answer to Johnny was " The Rifleman"...The Streaker in 1974( was that REALLY Pat McCormick? Or just a rumor?)...The night in 1980 when David Bowie performed and the audience would not screaming...11/20/78 when a young Dave Letterman was asked to sit with Johnny after his first appearance...Around 12/26/74 when I saw an emotional Johnny eulogize Jack Benny...The night Richard Pryor was a guest and he was joined by an elderly lady who Richard asked" Do you get high?" Johnny no doubt about peed...Or the time Doc was playing sidekick and Johnny magaed to tick him off about Thanksgiving.....It wasnt just Johnny though. Tommy Newsome was a hoot as was Ed and Doc. I compare Johnny leaving in 1992 to when Walter Cronkite said goodbye in 1981 on March 6th- Eds bday ironically. The standards of professionalism have fallen by the wayside. Im not sure thats a reflection of the talent or lack therof. I think it says more about society as a whole. A book that I found years ago gives great insight to Johnny Carson and the Tonight Show was written by Fred DeCordova himself."Johnny Came lately" Great book great life. Oh yes-Lastly Ill always remember the program that appeared in 1980 for Johnny when he went home to Nebraska-an NBC program. Midwest values all the way. Real-and just warm. Im 37. I wanted to be the next Johnny Carson as a young man. Now I realize I can only be me. Thank you Johnny for allowing me to go down memory lane.

Although I was only 13 when Johnny retired (and therefore too young to stay up late enough to watch) I still remember how hard they made my dad and me laugh. Keep up the great work on the site.

Class and Carson are synonymous terms. Your astute political observations are so missed. You would have had a field day with the last election to keep one laughing for months. I also miss your gift of listening to your guests and when they were hot, you let them run with it. I was always bleary from staying up to watch you. Not the case anymore. But I plan to buy the tapes and laugh all over again. All the best in your continued retirement (But come out now and then. It would be a treat.)

I remember staying up late waiting for the Intro to The Tonight Show and I would always get mad if it was a rerun because then I knew my parents would turn the TV off and go to bed. I was always afast asleep knowing that my parents were still awake watching Johnny. I love the show with Michael Landon, my favorite, and of course all the ones with the monkeys. God I miss those days!

My first recollection of The Johnny Carson Show was around 1963 - it was an hour and 45 minutes then in black and white - I was hooked for the next 29 years.
Most of my best memories are now lost but at least Mr. Carson has done it right by preserving what is left.
Thanks for that gift.

Johnny , I watched you for years and really admired the classy way in which you always treated your guests. As host , you did your best to make the guest look as good as possible because you were smart enough to realize , " When the guest looks good.....the show looks good. " That is why you were number one for thirty years. You were truly a STAR ! Thanks , Mike

A mans true wealth is to have and give humor. this man is truly blessed, to have such a great gift...another will not likely come soon!!!!!!!!! Johnny should know how well loved he was and still is... Johnny made my life so much happier by just being himself. He is a big part of our history, and so, Mr Carson I salute you, and thank you, and thank God for giving us a man of your talent and vision. Originally from Upstate NY, I am now living in Moscow, Russia, with my wife, Ludmila (she is Russian) and our 3 children. I bought the Carson Collection last year in the hopes of giving my wife and kids an appreciation for the man who brought so much joy to me and millions of other Americans. I was unprepared for what transpired: my whole family is now addicted to Johnny and even my 2 and a half year old son yells with delight, "Daddy, Carson, Carson!!" whenever we watch the videos. Johnny, if you read these messages (and I have a feeling you do), I would like on my behalf of my family to thank you for sharing with the world the unique gifts with which you are blessed and which lift our spirits each time we watch you. You are one of the last truly inspiring and worthy television role models.

Johnny, you are an inspiration. No one has ever had the ability to put their personality across on television like Johnny has. While on "The Tonight Show," Mr. Carson hosted the biggest and best nightly party ever (on TV or off).
"Moving right along with our bombastic review..." "YA-ha," "Wrong, Budweiser-breath," "take the Slaussen Cutoff..." and comments to the audience like "I could take you all home with me, but I only have 12 bedrooms" are classic Carson that fans remember and cherish.

My wife and I can truthfully state that we saw every Johnny Carson Show, the 30 years of it. When Jay Leno took over, we watched the first two nights and had enough. We watched David for two nights and that was the end of that. You have to understand, we were spoiled. There is no substitution for brilliancy.

It is now 11:48 PM and I wish I was watching the Tonight Show! I still miss Johnny. On his last show he said he would be back.... I feel jipped that he did not return in any format. I have already purchased the tapes you are offering. So many times when some crazy thing was happening (like the Florida election mess), I think what would Johnny have to say about this? There will never be another Johnny.

I remember tiptoeing out of bed in 1969 and peering around the corner to watch a man that was making my mom and dad laugh so hard. From that time on I could not wait for 11:30 to roll around. Then my dad started the afternoon shift I could not wait for my mom to leave to pick him up so I could see the start of the show! For a long time I only got to see the first 45mins,but it was enough to make me watch until he retried.I taped the last week of the show and every time I get the blues I just pop him in the vcr and the blues just melt away. Thank you J.C. for all the great laughs.May your life be filled with the best of everything.Love and peace

I miss Johnny Carson. I really do.
He was the best and still is.
My favorite episode was the one
where he came out singing Rhine-
stone cowboy. I also remember the
times he would argue with Ed over
the intelligence of a horse vs. a
pig. Really, though, the Tonight show
was was just one long show with a
few commercial breaks and one
23 hour break til the fun continued.
I used to dream of one day being on his
show. I have to find a new dream now.

There is no doubting that Mr. Carson remains the greatest show host, ever. But he is much more: he transcends the laughs he generated so brilliantly. The unique combination of talent, magnanimity, and joy he brought to his work is always a sure source of inspiration for me. Each time I watch the final broadcast I turn the TV off thinking: now there was a life lived well. And it always encourages me to live better myself. Thanks Johnny.

I've wished for so long, that somehow I could say to Johnny, just how much I've enjoyed his shows. Starting out with the "Who Do You Trust" afternoon shows and still being in front of the TV during his final Tonight Show broadcast with Bette Midler, I've wanted to let him know how many times I shut my John Deere tractor off so I could watch his show, he has made this ole' Illinois boy laugh a lot more than he could ever know.

I own every video that your web site offers, I think that all of us who grew up with Johnny want more. As a junior high student I had a TV in my bedroom. 7th graders are supposed to be asleep at 11:30pm EST.
