On this day in 1962, Johnny Carson made his debut as host of the The Tonight Show. Johnny went on to host The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson for 30 years and became one of the biggest stars of the 20th century. His legend is still alive today with legions of fans who still state that he was and is the greatest late-night talk show host ever.  Carson was The Tonight Show's host for three decades. During that time, he received six Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Carson's final appearance as host in 1992 attracted an estimated 50 million viewers.

It’s such a shame that NBC made one of the worst blunders in history by erasing virtually almost all 10 years. :( I would’ve really loved to see more of Johnny’s great shows from that era especially his debut show. That’s why I want all 33 existing episodes plus rare segments and footage and audio files I believe that still exist from the ten years on DVDs and downloads. Because they’re scarce and That’s all we have left to remember. Hopefully soon in the near future there’ll be more rare episodes and footage released on the vault series and downloads. :)
