Johnny Carson 01/03/15

Did you watch Johnny Carson last night? Another guest from the Featured Guest Series stole the show as only Mr. Warmth, Don Rickles can do. Last nights' 1 hour and 30 minute show was from May 21, 1974 and included the aforementioned Don Rickles, as well as Bob Hope, Michael Landon, Freddie Prinze, and Carol Wayne. Interestingly when this show was originally broadcast the musicians union was on strike at the time, so there were no music play ons for the guests this evening. The interplay between Johnny and Don Rickles is always fun to watch, there is really nothing like that happening on TV today. Another reason to stay up late and watch these great re-runs of Johnny Carson. And Antenna TV runs them early and late, at least currently, making it even easier to catch all these classic episodes.

Another great show!! This is one of the episodes I wanted to see and be released on dvd or download. I know on this particular night and the next night 5/22/74 which will be shown next Sunday, the musicians strike was going on and there was no music except for the bumpers! It was nice hearing a little more music. Don Rickles was always funny and Michael Landon and Freddie Prince’s appearances were priceless especially their exchanges between Rickles and Johnny. I also want to point out that even though they had to change the opening and closing credits due to copyrights and syndication purposes; it was nice the original opening music and Ed’s Heeeer’s Johnny was left intact. :) You can’t have the shows without those.
