Interview with Johnny

Posted on October 16, 2015 by Dave - Carson Entertainment Group | 1 comment
Happy Friday Carson Fans! While working on our latest DVD collection, which we'll be announcing next week, the following interview was mentioned during a show by one of the guests. I decided to look it up and watch it to gain perspective. The quality of the video is less than desirable and we'll have to check the archives and see if we have a better copy, but for now here's a link to the first part of the 1984 Barbara Walters interview with Johnny Carson on YouTube. There was a lot going on for Johnny in 1984 and professionally he was at the top of his game. Interviews with Johnny are rare and to see this candid side of him definitely gives you insight in to the man who we all saw nightly on The Tonight Show. So check it out and stay tuned for some exciting release news next week. Have a great weekend.

On this day in 1962, Johnny Carson made his debut as host of the The Tonight Show. Johnny went on to host The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson for 30 years and became one of the biggest stars of the 20th century. His legend is still alive today with legions of fans who still state that he was and is the greatest late-night talk show host ever.  Carson was The Tonight Show's host for three decades. During that time, he received six Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Carson's final appearance as host in 1992 attracted an estimated 50 million viewers.

Buddy Rich's Birthday

Posted on September 30, 2015 by Dave - Carson Entertainment Group | 1 comment

Buddy Rich would have been 98 years old today. Buddy Rich was billed as "the world's greatest drummer" and was a frequent guest and friend of Johnny Carson. His talent for rhythm was first noted by his father, who saw that Buddy could keep a steady beat with spoons at the age of one. He began playing drums in vaudeville when he was 18 months old, billed as "Traps the Drum Wonder." At the peak of Rich's childhood career, he was reportedly the second-highest paid child entertainer in the world (after Jackie Coogan). At 11, he was performing as a bandleader. Supposedly Buddy received no formal drum instruction, and went so far as to claim that instruction would only degrade his musical talent. He also never admitted to practicing, claiming to play the drums only during performances and was not known to read music. Buddy Rich remained active performing until the end of his life. - credited to Frank Beacham

Here, Buddy Rich and Ed Shaughnessy have a drum battle on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson in 1978. Happy Birthday Buddy!

New Releases Available

Posted on August 30, 2015 by Dave - Carson Entertainment Group | 1 comment

Did you hear? We have just released a bunch of shows that are now available on the website! Including three new Digital Downloads with shows from 1982, 1986, and 1989. Each one of the new Download episodes were being considered for the Featured Guest Series - Volumes 4-6, but when they didn't make it on to the DVDs (there's just not enough room for everything) we decided these shows really still needed to be released. So if you're a fan of Johnny, and we're pretty much assuming you are if you're reading this, you should definitely check out these classic three shows. It'll give you something to watch while you wait for your Pre-Order of the Featured Guest Series to arrive. If you haven't heard about that we've got a special limited time Pre-Order offer on the newly released Featured Guest Series. We have a special offer on the three new Volumes or if you haven't purchased it yet, pick up all six Volumes for a great deal. Volumes 4-6 include nine never-before-released shows - including commercials - and feature guests Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld and Burt Reynolds. It's a great time to be a Johnny Carson fan!

On a side note, a lot of you fans mentioned you wanted to watch the downloads on your TV. We'd love to hear of ways that you are doing that.  If you're looking for a clever way of watching your Carson Downloads on your TV and you have Apple TV you can drag the Downloaded MP4 file that you receive and put them in your iTunes' movies, turn on home sharing and go watch it on your TV. It really works great and with the commercials in there, it's like reliving the moment. If you fans have any other suggestions we'd love to hear them.

Enjoy the new releases!
